"Help The Bear"

We had a saying growing up, “Help the bear”. In other words if you see me and a bear fighting help the bear because I got this. Now in reality if any of us saw a bear walking the streets of Chicago, for once them corners would clear out 😂. What it meant back then was, “I’m confident I can take care of myself and you’d better think twice before you mess with me”. That was flesh and young pride talking because life (and some people) can throw you some blows that can take you completely out. Spiritually, in Christ, we can say that when we learn to rely on God’s strength and see ourselves as “MORE THAN CONQUERORS” (Romans 8:37). We have the authority through Christ to defeat the enemy! I think David felt like that when he convinced King Saul to allow him to fight Goliath. (1 Samuel 17:34-36) But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God”!
